Bob VHF portable Mt_Herman.jpg (57219 bytes)By background, education and (probably) genetics, I am an Electrical Engineer. I received a BSEE from Purdue University and an MSEE from Colorado State University. While attending Purdue University, I got interested in amateur radio and received my first amateur radio license in 1977.  I also hold a commercial license (FCC General Radiotelephone License) and a General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) license (KAF1068).  I've held a number of positions in R&D and engineering management and I have a Masters Degree in Management of Technology (MSMOT).

OSCAR Satellite Awards
I have been active on the low-earth-orbit (LEO) amateur radio satellites for several years. I recently received confirmation of working stations in 100 different vhf grids. This was mostly done via the UO-14, AO-27 and ISS (digital) satellites. In March 2002, I received the Satellite VUCC award (#115) from the ARRL. In June 2003, I received the AMSAT OSCAR Satellite Communications Achievement Award #381.

DX Century Club
After many years of sporadic operation on the high frequency radio bands, I finally confirmed contacts with over 100 countries around the world.  I received DXCC award #36,847 from the American Radio Relay League on February 5, 2000.
